Update on iOS 7, 6.1.3 /6.1.4 Untethered Jailbreak

One of the confirming sign of a jailbroken Apple device is the presence of the Cydia icon sitting on the home screen quietly and responsively.

Once more, that Cydia icon have been spotted on an iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.4 and this quickly suggest that iPhone 5 jailbreak had been achieved but not released publicly. The reason for not being released publicly is not far fetched.

Winocm who is the main guy behind this jailbreak made a tweet saying that "The status of the jailbreak is pretty much: it needs work but its almost there. (For a very small subset of devices.)"

iH8sn0w shed more light in this area by saying that one of the current issues being faced by the team involve native apps on the device managing to delete themselves as well as problems surrounding the activation of iMessage and FaceTime. The informative post also tackles the age old question of why bother burning these exploits on a minor install base of iOS 6.1.4/6.1.3 when they could be used to provide liberation on a mass scale on iOS 7? The simple answer to that is that the exploits being used in this jailbreak will not work on iOS 7.

Furthermore, he confirms that Apple has now officially closed the ability for users to downgrade back to iOS 6.1.x from iOS 7. Although iOS 7 has been extremely popular with users, it’s more than likely that hardcore jailbreak lovers would have stayed on their iOS 6 installations to maintain that safety net. The good news is that it has been confirmed that everything that is required for the iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 untethered jailbreak on A5+ devices is in place. The problem, and current focal point, is fixing internal bugs that simply cannot be shipped with a public jailbreak.

Finally, iOS 7 jailbreak is a mile away and the evad3rs team are working hard on that. The good news as stated above is that those still on iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 will get an untethered jailbreak soon enough - just hang in there a little longer.

Untethered iOS 6.1.3 Jailbreak For iPhone 4 Has Been Found

There's a strong possibility that iOS 6.1.3 will see an untethered jailbreak soon for iPhone 4 as tweeted by a hacker by the Twitter handle @Winocm.
Presently, only iPhone 3GS old bootrom can be jailbroken untethered on iOS 6.1.3. iPhone 4 and 3GS (New BR) can be jailbroken tethered only while iPhone 4S and 5 can't be jailbroken at all.

However, according to @winocm, he believes that he has found a binary code that can be used to achieve an untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4 on iOS 6.1.3 but "it needs some work". That was the good news which lasted for about 2hrs, then came the bad news.

Although he was quick to point out that the code "barely work on the iPhone 4" and thus he's not too sure it would work out. That is just wicked! That was the bad news.
Seriously! Some people's hope were just dashed! Some may come down with a heart attack for they have waited for a news of untethered iOS 6.1.3 jailbreak for their iPhone 4 like forever.

Anyway, seeing how close we are to officially getting iOS 7 on our iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5S devices, and how more notable hackers are working indefatigably and consistently to release a jailbreak for iOS 7, there should be little cause for worry.
Let's wait on the super heroes, the usual suspects we've always known to bring us a good and working untethered jailbreak for iOS 7 rather than getting our hopes up by news from someone who we barely know.

iOS 7 beta 2 Jailbreak Achieved

iOS 7 beta 2 Jailbreak have been achieved. Ryan Petrich posted a picture of a jailbroken iPod touch running iOS 7 beta 2 yesterday.

Although there's no much word on how he achieved this even before it was officially released but we think that the code or exploits used might have been from Joshua Hill aka @posixninja who tweeted that he would be releasing the next jailbreak all on his own but saving it for when iOS 7 would finally be released.

Also,  last week we told you that this same guy Joshua Hill, tweeted that he has something bigger than jailbreak and would be released soon. What is it that is bigger than  jailbreak?

Well yesterday, that thing was revealed which you would find out below.

The next big thing bigger than jailbreak is what Joshua Hill calls the openjailbreak.
While shedding light on the term "openjailbreak",  @posixninja says it wants to bring together all his fragmented codes and exploits into one place where it can be further developed and patched by other talented hackers like him.
Consequently, he's opening up a website where all these codes will reside and managed by him and his team.

He also shows his dislike for Redsn0w, Sn0wbreeze, iOS 6.1.3 and wants to move away from  such style.

Surely this guy is talented and we are sure he has even more pretty big things up his sleeves.
Stay tuned and glued to this website as we bring you true and concise information that you need, especially when iOS 7 jailbreak finally gets released.

Something Bigger than iOS Jailbreak On the Way

Something big is coming soon to the iOS community. This was the impression that we got from the recent tweet by one of the popular hackers out there by the name of Joshua Hill aka @p0sixninja.

He said according to his tweet as shown below that "I got a lot of amazing things coming to you soon. Think bigger than jailbreak"

We have no idea what he is really talking about, especially the phrase "think bigger than jailbreak" which is a huge topic in IOS community.

What can be bigger than Jailbreak? Bootrom Exploit for A5(X)/A6(X) devices? or something even huge? Something that will win the war between Apple and Jailbreak community for a longer period or ability to downgrade iPhone 4S and iPhone 5?

There's possibility that a bootrom exploit is in the works.
You will recall that the last bootrom exploit developed by Geohot is still at work for pre A5 devices that allow them to be jailbreakable at least tethered.

Another bootrom exploit for A5 & A6 devices would be a welcomed development. If that happens, then we are sure of getting at least a tethered jailbreak on all A5 & A6 devices running latest Apple firmware perhaps.

Until then, lets wait till @p0sixninja aka Joshua Hill finishes his work and unveil that big thing he's talking about.

Follow us on twitter @akinloluife for timely information on latest developments in the iOS community.

How to Update to iOS 6.1.3 and Unlock With Gevey SIM

As you all know already, iOS 6.1.3 is the most recent firmware for all iOS 6 compatible devices except for iPhone 5 which has iOS 6.1.4 as the most recent firmware.
As of the time of this writing Apple is still signing iOS 6.1.3 and 6.1.4.

It is NOT possible to jailbreak iOS 6.1.3 untethered, it can only be jailbroken tethered on older devices like iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. Therefore, if you have an iPhone 5 or 4S running iOS 6.1.3, you won't be able to jailbreak it.
Furthermore, Gevey works best for a jailbroken iDevice, therefore, since only tethered jailbreak is available for iOS 6.1.3, Gevey doesn't function well and its not guaranteed to work with your device.

All hope is not lost as it is very certain that iOS 7.0 will have a jailbreak when it comes out by September.

This tutorial is to allow you update your iPhone to iOS 6.1.3, Jailbreak and unlock using Gevey for supported devices. Please read carefully before you begin your update!

This tutorial took a while to create and was tested for iPhone 3GS. It wasn't tested on any iPhone 4 but used research and comments of people online to assume that it works for iPhone well.

Note 1: The procedure to jailbreak iOS 6.1.3 only works for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.

Note 2: Gevey SIM Ultra doesn't work well with iOS 6.1.3 so use at your own risk.

Note 3: iPhone 3GS old bootrom can be jailbroken untethered on iOS 6.1.3 and unlocked too.

Note 4:  Ultrasn0w works along with Gevey to make the unlock possible.

Note 5: If you are not comfortable using iBooty to boot tethered, you can use Redsn0w to also boot tethered too.

Note 6: If you don't want to jailbreak or unlock your device, just download 6.1.3 and install using iTunes, but  you must have an officially supported SIM to activate your device.

SHSH blobs from Cydia Doesn't Allow Downgrade on iOS 6

iOS downgrade
Just recently, Apple released iOS 6.1.3 and many people that loved their jailbroken devices blindly updated only to find out that it is impossible to jailbreak iOS 6.1.3.
Desperately, many of sort to downgrade back to 6.1.2 or lower for those with iPhone 3GS & 4 only to end up with a device in soft DFU loop; that is device refuses to boot up.

Across various forums and discussion sites, this problem have been reported by those that tried downgrading using SHSH blobs saved on Cydia servers. Those that downgraded using blobs saved with iFaith and TinyUmbrella hardly experience this problem. This problem received little answer as to why it happens.

Well, Saurik, the guy behind Cydia offered some insights as to why this problem occur. This you can find here for better understanding.

In summary, what he is saying is that Apple have implemented a kind of mechanism that only allow the restoration to most recent firmwares, more like most recent and two others before it. Also, all of the APTickets Cydia itself requested from Apple for iOS 6 are useless coupled with incomplete shsh blobs. Thus it causes problems for those that try to restore to a earlier iOS using blobs from Cydia.

What is important is that for now, you should always save SHSH blobs locally as soon as you upgrade to a new firmware when it is still been signed.
Although, it has become visible that newer devices won't be downgrade-able but for those still using the iPhone 3GS and 4, it  is advised that you always save blobs locally by using tools like TinyUmbrella and iFaith.

We hope that, this cat and mouse thing going between Apple and users will end one day with the victory at the users side.

How To Downgrade iOS 6.1.3 To Earlier iOS Versions

So you accidentally updated your device to iOS 6.1.3 without thinking but you want to be able to jailbreak?
Well, you can downgrade your device to earlier versions of iOS like 6.1.2, 6.1.1, 6.1, 6.0 and even 5.1.1.
The good thing about earlier versions of the iOS is that they can be jailbroken untethered compared to iOS 6.1.3 that can not be jailbroken untethered.

Please follow the steps below carefully. Don't skip any step. Also, make sure that you have all the requirements below.

For this guide, I am downgrading to iOS 5.1.1 on an iPhone 4 GSM. Consequently, depending on the version you want to restore to (X), iOS 5.1.1 = X for you.

REQUIREMENTS
  1. Redsn0w 0.9.15b3
  2. 6.0 stock IPSW download here
  3. 5.1.1 stock IPSW download here
  4. 5.1.1 SHSH blobs saved with iFaith 1.5.6 latest version
  5. iTunes 11
  6. iReb r7 download here
Procedures
STEP 1. Download Redsn0w 0.9.15b3 here. Extract and place on Desktop

STEP 2. Launch Redsn0w 0.9.15b3 in Administrator mode

STEP 3. Click on Extras and then click on SHSH blobs as shown in the image below

STEP 4. Click on Stich and then on IPSW

STEP 5. Select your IPSW. iOS 5.1.1 in my case. You will notice that its a custom IPSW with NO_BB attached to its name. This is to enable me prevent baseband upgrade.

STEP 6. Click on Open. Click Local and select the blob corresponding to your iOS version

STEP 7.  Redsn0w will build you a stitched IPSW as shown in the image below and would be stored in a folder. The new IPSW will begin with numbers

STEP 8. Go back on Redsn0w and click Extras then Pwned DFU. Follow the instructions to put your device in DFU mode.

STEP 9. Once in DFU mode, close Redsn0w and Launch iTunes

STEP10. iTunes will detect your device in Restore mode. Hold shift on your keyboard and click on Restore.

STEP 11. Select the IPSW that Redsn0w stitched for you

STEP 12. iTunes will begin restoring to that IPSW. if you encounter any Error, use iReb r7 to fix it. To do this, run iReb and click on your device as shown in the image below

STEP 13. iTunes will successfully restore to iOS 5.1.1. Now close iTunes and check your device. It will be running iOS 5.1.1

STEP 14. For those restoring to iOS 6.1.2 or 6.1, you will have to boot tethered with Redsn0w. So launch Redsn0w and click on Extras.

STEP 15. Click on Select IPSW and point it to iOS 6.0 IPSW

STEP 16. Click on Just boot and then put device in DFU mode. You can also use iReb to put device in DFU mode.

I hope this helps someone.
Note, this can also be achieved with the help of Snowbreeze 2.9.13 also if you are not comfortable with Redsn0w. The procedure is the same and the steps are also the same.
Feel free to drop comments on your success story and issues that you might have encountered and i will try to help resolve it

Jailbreak And SHSH blobs

Jailbreak and SHSH blobs can be very confusing for some people especially those that are new to the Apple world.
Knowledge they say is power. If you have knowledge and understanding on a particular topic you won't have issues dealing with that topic.

At the time of this writing, it is not recommended to update your iDevice to iOS 6.1.3 if you intend on jailbreaking your device untethered. Furthermore, save your SHSH blobs with the software listed above.

However, if you do not plan to jailbreak your device, feel free to update to the latest iOS version.

Apple devices are one of the best kind of devices out there. Its so simple to use and relatively stable and reliable but there things you need to know when using an Apple device. Continue after the jump.
This piece is especially recommended for those that are new to using Apple devices and are wondering what all these terms means.

Jailbreak
Jailbreak is an activity that involves the running of certain programmed codes on an Apple device in other to lift restrictions or boundaries on the Apple Operating System (iOS) placed by Apple while giving the user of the device super user or full access to the device's system. Jailbreaking allow one to run unsigned applications that naturally would not run if it wasn't jailbroken.
There are 3 kinds of jailbreak: Tethered, Semi-tethered and Untethered

Tethered: device will not boot up until its jailbroken again whenever device goes off
Semi-tethered: Some apps will not function when device is turned off/on again until a jailbreak is performed on the device
Untethered: device will perform well, apps will run well if device is turned off/on - no need to re-jailbreak
Untethered jailbreak is the most preferable form of jailbreak.
Brand new Apple device are not in a jailbreak state. Apple frowns at it. As far as Apple is concerned it voids your warranty whenever you jailbreak your device. However, used devices bought may already have been jailbroken.
One of the ways you can know if a device is jailbroken is by the Cydia  icon on the home screen
Benefits: it gives you total control over your device and you can install whatever you please on the device

Software that help to jailbreak Apple products are numerous but the most popular ones are

Evasi0n
evasi0n-icon-evad3rs

Redsn0w
redsn0w app icon

Snowbreeze
Updated Sn0wbreeze

Absinthe
Absinthe jailbreak logo

At the time of this writing. Evasi0n is the tool recommended to jailbreak untethered iOS 6.0 - 6.1.2 on all devices.
Redsn0w is able to perform a tethered jailbreak on iOS 6.0 - 6.1.3 on selected devices
    Downgrade
Downgrading refer to a process of Installing an earlier version of Apple's iOS on a device instead of the most current iOS.
Usually, whenever, a new iOS is released, it becomes impossible to install a previous version of the iOS. However, ways have been designed to make this possible provided SHSH blobs have been saved for that iOS one intends to install.

Downgrade is only possible for pre A5 devices. This means that iPhone 4S and 5  are not possible to downgrade. For example, an iPhone 4 with iOS 6.1.3 installed can be downgraded to iPhone 4 6.1.2 if the SHSH blobs are saved. However, iPhone 4S can't achieve that even if SHSH blobs are saved.
Furthermore, apart from the firmware or iOS downgrade, there is also a downgrade of something called baseband. Just like the iOS downgrade, baseband downgrade is only possible for iPhone 3G and 3GS but not possible for later generation of iDevices.

    SHSH Blobs
This is a kind of file saved on all devices whenever an iOS is installed on  the device. Its a kind of signature that  accompanies all iOS that are installed on a device.
This file is also store on Cydia server for those that have a jailbroken device but can also be saved on a computer with the help of softwares like iFaith and TinuUmbrella.
The benefit of having saved SHSH blobs is that it gives certain devices (pre A5 devices only) the ability to downgrade their iOS in the future if they so please even if Apple isn't signing it on their servers anymore.

The recommendation is that one should always save SHSH blobs locally with the help of iFaith and TinyUmbrella just in case there is a need to downgrade iOS.
That is, when you upgrade your iOS, do a saving of the device's SHSH blobs and keep on your computer.

More terms would be added to the list. However, it is pertinent to note that proper information is needed before you upgrade to any firmware or attemp to jailbreak any iDevice .

feel free to ask questions on any term you do not understand and any task you are not sure of carrying out.

How To Downgrade iOS 6.1.3 To iOS 6.1 or 6.1.2

For so many people who have upgraded their devices to the latest iOS 6.1.3 and have lost their untethered jailbreak in the process, this tutorial is to help you downgrade back to iOS 6.1.2  or any iOS 6.x
This tutorial is only supported for iPhone 4, iPod 4G and iPhone 3GS with already saved SHSH blobs on the computer. It is not sometimes advisable to use remote fetching of SHSH blobs files from Cydia because it is not reliable.

    Needed iTems:
    1. iOS 6.x IPSW & 6.0 IPSW
    2. Snowbreeze latest version
    3. iTunes 11
    4. Redsn0w 0.9.15b3
    5. Local SHSH blobs for your iOS 6.1.2
    Supported device
    1. iPhone 4 and 3GS

      5. Once selected, Snowbreeze will further accept it and then click on Build IPSW

      6. Snowbreeze will build a new IPSW and it will be on the Desktop.
      7. Click Ok and Put your device in DFU mode and then launch iTunes
      8. When iTunes is launched, it will see a device that needs to be restores. Hold Shift on your computer and click Restore.
      9. Select the new IPSW that snowbreeze built for you and iTunes will restore to that IPSW
      10. Once Completed, phone may not boot up. Launch Redsn0w in administrator mode
      11. Click Extras, the select IPSW. Select IPSW 6.0 and then go back
      12. Click Just boot, put device in DFU mode again. Once in DFU mode, Redsn0w will begin the process tethered jailbreak. Check Install Cydia if presented with the menu and then Redsn0w will continue with its works. device will boot up
      13. Once completed you will be in iOS 6.x jailbroken. Go to Cydia and then download the Evasi0n untethered package.
Although converting to untethered  with Cydia untethered packcage doesn't seem to work, you can give it a try.

I hope this helps someone achieve that downgrade and untethered jailbreak on iOS 6.1.2. Feel free to drop your comments if you encounter problems in the process and I will help resolve it.

      How To Jailbreak iOS 6.1.3

Apple have released the next update of their iPad, iPod and iPhone operating system to version 6.1.3.
Earlier in the March when the betas were out, it was suggested that jailbreakers shouldn't upgrade to this version should it become live because it patches the exploits used by Evasion to achieve an untethered jailbreak on all iDevices running iOS 6.x.

A little definition will suffice. Tethered jailbreak means that when the device is powered off or run out of battery, one will need to connect the device to the computer to boot up again using Redsn0w
On the other hand, Untethered jailbreak means that if device is powered off or battery runs down, device will boot up normally without the need to plug into a computer nor boot up with Redsn0w

Well, finally, iOS 6.1.3 is out and some people would have failed to heed to warning not to upgrade their devices to the latest version if  they intend on keeping their untethered jailbreak achieved in iOS 6.1.2.

All hope isn't lost as some devices can still be jailbroken untethered on iPhone 3GS old bootrom and tethered on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS new bootrom and iPod 4th generation.

      Needed Items
      1. Redsn0w 0.15b3
      2. iPhone 3GS, 4G, or iPod 4th Gen
      3. 6.1.3 IPSW
      4. 6.0 IPSW
      5. iTunes 11
Note: This applies to only pre-A5 devicesSTEPS
      1. Download iTunes 11 if you don't already have it.
      2. If you wish to preserve baseband, follow this link (step 4) for help
      3. Download both 6.0 and 6.1.3 IPSW to your computer via here
      4. Update device via iTunes.
      5. Close iTunes and launch Redsn0w 0.15b3
      6. Click Extras and Select IPSW, make sure iOS 6.0 IPSW is selected
      7. Now go back and click on Jailbreak
      8. Follow the instructions on the screen to enter DFU mode
      9. When properly in DFU mode, Redsn0w will proceed and you will be asked to check some items, check to install Cydia in the options given to you
      10. Once jailbreak is complete, device will reboot and you would be jailbroken tethered or untethered depending on your device
Please drop comments to let us know how it went with your device and problem you might encounter in the process.

Apple Patches Evasi0n Untethered Jailbreak Exploit

The usual cat  and mouse game between Apple and vast majority of jailbreaker and hackers have started again.
Evasi0n was the tool that brought about untethered jailbreak to all iDevices running iOS 6.0 - 6.1.2 for a while and seems as though the cat & mouse game ended. However new reports especially from popular member of the evad3rs team David Wang (p0sixninja) says that those that want to keep their untethered jailbreak should stay away from updating to the upcoming iOS 6.1.3 firmware.

It will interest you to know that Apple already released beta versions of iOS 6.1.3 to developers and its rumored that the untethered jailbreak exploit used by Evasi0n have been partly patched.

According to Wang, if one of the exploits are patched, the jailbreak would not be able to function. Consequently, hackers will have to look out for new vulnerabilities in the firmware to create another untethered jailbreak for all devices concerned.

Although, Wang in one of the interviews with Forbes stated that there are enough exploits already developed to keep iOS 6.x untethered jailbreak alive but it would be smart for those that want an untethered jailbreak to remain on iOS 6.1.2 until the coast is clear and the go is proclaimed by the wonderful hackers out there.

With past occurrences, it is known that no really new updates or features will be seen in iOS 6.1.3 that is so different from iOS 6.1.2. Therefore, I will advise that all folks that want to keep their jailbreak should refrain from updating to iOS 6.1.3 should it go live.
