New Tecno M7 Smartphone Specifications, Features and Price

If you are wondering when Tecno will release yet a new device to the market, then I like to tell you that you should wonder less as there is a new Tecno smartphone in the market now with outstanding features and specs. This one is called Tecno M7 as shown in the image below as it came directly from Hong Kong. Its very similar to Tecno Phantom A+ but the price is very low.

Let me quickly give you the specification and price of this new Tecno phone.

Dimension and Weight
Tecno M7 has dimensions 146.7 x 76 x 10.4mm and weighs about 135g
Network and SIM
Tecno M7 is a 3G/2G network capable of transferring and receiving data at 3.75G network. Its a dual SIM smartphone with SIM 1 operating at both 2G and 3G while SIM 2 is operating just 2G network. Its band is GSM900/DCS1800/WCDMA2100MHz

Operating System
Tecno M7 is operating on Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean

Processor
Though i was expecting to see quad core in this area, but well, Tecno M7 comes with a dual core processor clocked at 1.3GHz

Memory and RAM
This device comes with 1GB of RAM and internal memory of 4GB and extra 8GB of MicroSD card already installed. Of course, it can support memory up to 32GB if need be.

Screen and Resolution
Tecno M7 has a 5.0 inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 854 (FWVGA).

Camera
This device is bagging a 8MP BSI back camera and a 2MP front VGA camera. It gives you a high quality image quality. As far as i can tell, it gives up to a resolution of 2448 x 3264px, which is at par with that of Tecno Phantom A+.

Battery
As usual, Tecno devices always comes with removable batteries and this is no exception. It comes with a 2000mAh battery that is removable.

Connectivity
It has WiFi, WiFi Hotspot, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 and of yes a mini USB port to connect to computers.

Sensors
The usual suspects are the ones we expect here without surprises and as you might have guessed, Proximity, Light and G sensors are all present in the device.

Pre-loaded apps
Apps like Gmail, Facebook, Whatsapp, Flash share, Palm chat are all pre-loaded into the phone.

Audio and Video
As usual, it supports all popular audio and video files and can play even more with the help of various video and audio players when installed.

Inside The Pack
As you would expect, the packaging is exactly like the Tecno Phantom A. It comes with an earphone, USB cord, a flip case and a two pin adapter with a USB port.

Price
One thing that blew my mind away was the price Tecno is offering this piece of smartphone. Its being sold for N26,000 at Divine Anyi communications computer village, Ikeja, Lagos as we speak. You can call Adom on 08060791362

Verdict
Are you planning of getting this Tecno M7? Well, its not a bad idea at all, considering that its almost the same thing as Tecno Phantom A with even small price. Furthermore, its running Android 4.2.1 which is what Tecno Phantom A+ is currently running only that Tecno Phantom A+ is quad core and 1.2GHz.
Finally, its far better than the Tecno P5, M3 and L3 in terms of camera, RAM and Screen + Resolution.

How To Make Your Battery Last Longer On Your Smartphone

Batteries, batteries, batteries, they are very precious in our present age. I remember watching a movie set in the year 2050 where electronic devices don't use batteries anymore, once there is air, it will be powered on and since air is infinite in that time, all electronic devices just work without batteries.

Well, we are not in the year 2050 and of course there is no such technology yet so we are still left with using batteries to power our gadgets, smartphones et al.

As our devices become more sophisticated, the battery power they need to drain also increase and therefore it becomes very important to make sure that one gets the best juice out of the battery in the device. To do that, follow this tips as directed below and you should see some significant change in battery consumption by your devices.

Tip 1: Refrain from charging your smartphone to 100% always. The best thing to do is to charge to 80% and then use to 40%. At this point you can recharge again to 80% before disconnecting.

Tip 2: When indoors or in place of low light, the backlight of the screen display should be dimmed to reduce power consumption. The same applies to using it at night. However, if you are in a highly sunny environment where you hardly see things in the screen, the backlight could be increased.

Tip 3: Leaving Bluetooth and WiFi on sometimes drain the power of batteries. You should endeavour to switch off wireless and Bluetooth when not in use.

Tip 4: 3G or H+ networks are battery drainers. When your network is set to utilise 3G or H+ network permanently, it drains power, also it contributes to a longer charge period. So its better to put the network to EDGE when not surfing the web and when charging the device.

Tip 5: Use recommended chargers to charge up the smartphone. Usage of non recommended adapters could destroy the battery slowly.

Tip 6: Playing heavy games while charging the device, will have a significant impact on the charging duration of the battery. Try to charge first and then play games after charging is complete.

Tip 7: Some apps are notorious for consuming power when in or not in use. In this case, you are to identify such applications and eliminate them when not in use. This will considerably improve how long your battery last.

Tip 8: Automatic sync and updates have a way of killing batteries. You should disable these. Android devices and iOS 7 are known to be particularly guilty of this.

if you would be traveling a lot, a serious internet user or won't be near a power source for a long time, a power bank should be around you. One such power bank is Nomad power bank which you can get here.

More tips for your batteries will be given. However, if you can follow these mentioned tips, you should have a battery that last long.

Should you buy this device? Well, yes you can if money is a problem and you are not a serious HD gamer like that. The only problem a lot of people would have with it is the RAM. Though most high definition games will play fine if it's not RAM siphoning game.

Infinix Mobility: The Way Forward

Infinix, formerly known as Sagem is a smattphone and tablet manufacturing company that currently has 6 market locations which are France, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Australia.

Currently, Infinix have permeated the Nigerian market well enough alongside Tecno and are becoming a force to be reckoned with in the Nigerian smartphone market.

Furthermore, their 3 mobile devices product line are Tablet, Smartphone and a Phablet. The latest and flagship phablet is the 5.7 inch Infinix Alpha which is already pulling weight and bringing in the cash daily. However, the competition is ever strong especially from the likes of Tecno-Mobile, Samsung and HTC who are currently controlling a good amount of market share on the Nigeria smartphone industry.

So, what can Infinix do to further increase their fan base and market share?

1. Create more products with good specifications and features. This is of course already on ground and its the reason they are still in business . An attempt to release a device with old technology and specs has highly damaging effects and very difficult to recover from.
Consequently, there is no room to lag behind in delivering latest OS and features in their devices if Infinix must continue to grow and win buyers to their side.

2. OTA software updates which is an acronym for Over The Air cannot be overlooked.
While this is not a deal breaker for some, it is for others. Usually, smartphone savvy peeps care a lot about the ability to upgrade the operating system of their device if it becomes available and Nigerians are actually savvy.
Currently, only Samsung and HTC are the Nigerian smartphone players that gives such luxury of having OTA software upgrades in the Nigerian smartphone  market.
Tecno and Infinix devices do not have such ability for OTA OS upgrades and that could set Infinix apart from Tecno - Mobile if they start offering OTA OS updates.

Already, the cloud section of Infinix website suggests that such ability is already in the works and will be available to their customer soon enough.

From a scale of 1 - 10, the chances of increasing their user base if OTA updates becomes available to Infinix devices would be 7, apparently meaning that they have gained more followers to themselves  and this would be a deal breaker for those that that plan to get a Tecno device.

3. Serious branding is a powerful tool that cannot  be over emphasized.
A higher percentage of the Nigerian folks believe that this Infinix device is a Chinese substandard product and would rather shell out more cash to purchase phones from Samsung, Nokia and HTC even if they cost more and perform the same function with any Infinix device.

This is where branding and marketing comes to play. Infinix must re-orientate and change that perception to fully grasp the attention new, existing and target customers. In other to soak into them like sponge, that perception need to be changed and used to their advantage. No room for weakness .

4. Finally, impatience can wreck any person, company or government and smartphone companies are not an exception.

Even though it looks as though Samsung is not caring so much about their Nigerian market as to reply to any threat they face there, it should be noted that attempt to out-do Samsung in some areas would be met with stiff reply that can bounce.

Yes, the price has to be competitive, features and specs should be recent and above industry standard but trying to  introduce some gangstar features found in latest Samsung devices may drive up cost and invariably scare away the mostly middle class people that see Infinx as an excellent alternative to high priced Samsung devices. Once these buyers use the infinix product and are satisfied, they become a fan and may never return to Samsung product even if Infinix devices becomes pocket tearing in the future.

In conclusion, Infinix has a bright future in the smartphone industry if they can keep doing what they do best. These are my arguments supported by rational thinking and understanding of the modern smartphone industry and I totally believe that Inifinx with constant innovation can become a strong force not only in the Nigerian smartphone market but in other areas they operate just like Samsung and the rest.

BlackBerry Sacks More Than Half Its US Sales Employees

A new report in a small statement to the WSJ by the BlackBerry spokesperson confirmed that BlackBerry sacked more than half its US sales force.

According to the report, which originated from CantechLetter, says that the job cut was attributed to the very low sales of BlackBerry devices and "enterprise is gutted." Furthermore, the source says ”I had twenty guys (from BlackBerry) on BBM from sales, and they have all posted alternate emails on their status,”.

According to source, this laying off of sales team would spill over to  the UK soon enough.

This just further enforces that the company is readying itself to go private or get sold or even opt out of smartphones business altogether especially when it was rumored that Fairfax Financial may be looking to take BlackBerry private.

Which ever it is, we shall keep you posted as its happening.

New 5.7in Tecno A2 aka Phantom F8: Pros and Cons

First of all, I am disappointed at the latest phone or phablet  unveiled by Tecno, called The Tecno A2 aka Phantom F8.

Is this a new line of smartphone? Perhaps it is considering the screen size of the device which is 5.7in almost 6 inches. Devices having this screen size are usually referred to as Phablet. Examples are Samsung Galaxy Note

Perhaps you might ask why I believe that this new smartphone is a disappointment, I will like to present you with its features and specifications.

TECNO A2 AKA F8 SPECS & FEATURES

Operating System: Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

Processor: MT6589 quad core 1.2GHz processor with embedded GPU

RAM: 1GB with 4GB internal memory with expandable MicroSD slot to 32GB

Camera: 13 mega pixel back camera and 8 mega pixel front camera. It also has a flash light for taking pictures in low light situation.Video recording capability and image size 720 x 1280.

Display: screen size is 5.7 inch with 720 x 1280 resolution. This means a HD screen but not Gorilla display.

Connectivity: WiFi and WiFi Hotspot, coupled with Bluetooth 3.0, GPS navigation, USB port and 3.5mm earphone port.

Sensors: This device is embedded with G sensor, Light sensor and proximity sensor.

Network: 3.75G/3G/2G with bands GSM900/1800MHz/WCDMA2100MHz. Dual SIM standby with SIM 1 capable of 3G/2G data connectivity while the SIM 2 can only transfer data in 2G band.

Battery capacity: battery is 2630mAh capable of giving 17.3hrs of talk time and 280hrs of standby time.

Other features: FM Radio, Voice recording, eBook reader, supports popular audio, picture and video format by default.
Size: 106 x 82 x 8.9 mm and available in black and white build.

In The Box:
You get an earpiece, a USB cord, a 2-pin plug to charge. NO Power Bank this time around, however you get a stylus pen. This Phantom A2 doesn't come with a Power Bank but a stylus pen like the Samsung Galaxy Note series

Now you have seen the specifications and you may begin to understand why I believe that I was disappointed with the specs of the device. This I will point out in pros and cons.

Cons
Firstly, the RAM of this device is too low. Most of the device in this product category which "phablet" comed with a RAM of at least 2GB.
Why can't Tecno make this device in 2GB. This would even set it apart from the newly released Infinix Alpha aka Ultimate force.

Secondly, the processor frequency is low. Expected processing frequency was 2GHz and at least 1.7GHz. This being said, this device didn't deliver in this department.

Finally, internal memory shouldn't be less than 8GB considering the camera is 13 mega pixel. Enough space should have been provided to accommodate the image size of photos taken.

Pros
First, a camera size of 13 mega pixel is good. And its a plus for this device. Furthermore, an operating system (OS) of 4.2 is great considering that inifinx offered a lower OS 4.1.2

Finally, the resolution isn't too bad but could have been better so as to compensate for the huge screen size.

Verdict
personally, I will score this device a 6/10 due to the aforementioned cons which are key and germane to a excellent phablet.

Price for this new Tecno device is N42,000 and available at Divine Anyi Communications Ikeja Lagos. Call Admon 08060791362

Infinix Alpha Ultimate Force Smartphone: Pros and Cons

Okay, we know Infinix is really gearing up now and are working tirelessly to bring nice smartphones to its loyal customers especially in Nigeria.

That being said, a new Infinix smartphone is now with the name Infinix Alpha or X570 which comes right after the Infinix Race Max Q. One cannot really say how successful the Race Max Q was, but it could be safe to assume that it did below expectations seeing how Tecno Phantom A and A+ dominated the market scene in Nigeria and other African countries where they operate.

So, what is in this Infinix Alpha that can change the table in favour of Infinix this time around? See  the specifications below to get you started. A video review also available here

Infinix Alpha is a 5.7 inch capacitive touchscreen with a screen resolution of 720 x 1280, 12 mega pixel rear camera plus 5 mega pixel front camera with 1GB of RAM and a 1.2GHz Quad core processor and Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1 smartphone.

Furthermore, its a 2G/3G dual SIM network phone embedded with Bluetooth 4.0 technology, WiFi and WiFi hotspot capability combined with GPS and USB port for connectivity.

Infinix didn't stop there, the usual sensors common for modern smartphones are also included: G-Sensor, Light Sensor and Proximity sensors are included.
Of course, music, video and FM Radio isn't lacking and virtually common audio and video formats are supported.

The device is powered by a 2300mAh battery so as to keep things running.

Pros
Comparing it to its predecessor Race Max Q, there is a huge leap in the screen resolution from 480 x 845 to 720 x 1280. Consequently, its extremely sharp compared to the Race Max Q.

Furthermore, there is a camera upgrade from 8.0 to 12.0 mega pixel for the rear camera and from 1.2 megapixel to a whooping 5 mega pixel front camera. Skype would definitely be thrilled be this camera spec. The rear camera has a powerful flash that makes taking pictures in low light areas a breeze.

Another point which is fascinating is in the use of a corning gorilla glass 2, which is yet to be seen in any of the products made by Infinix's direct rival Tecno - Mobile.

Also, Infinix increased the operating system to Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1 which is very great with excellent processor MT6589 quad core running 1.2GHz.

Finally, increasing the ROM from 4GB to 16GB  when compared to Race Max Q is a plus to this device. This means extra space to save all those pictures captured with the 12 mega pixel camera.

Cons
One of the major shortcomings of this new Infinix Alpha is the RAM, its in our opinion that the RAM should have been like 2GB RAM seeing  how RAM of above 1GB is becoming the norm now. It would have been a plus for Infinix considering that TECNO and Gionee don't have a 2GB RAM smartphone currently. What if these rivals come out with  a 2GB RAM smartphone as their own flagship phone?

Yet another con is that this device doesn't have a MicroSD slot to increase the memory. It could have been a good thing to add since camera pictures can be as high as 5MP.

Finally, we were expecting to see NFC on this device since there is a rumor that NFC is coming to the next TECNO device. NFC will allow for many things especially sharing and connecting of soft items.

Verdict
Well seeing the pros out-beat the cons, its easy to say that what would ultimately determine the verdict is the price tag attached to this smartphone which starts from N45k - 49k depending on the store. Consequently I will give this device a 8/10 rating.

You guys should definitely buy it!

Well, this is it, the Infinix Alpha aka Ultimate Force smartphone. The price for this device is between N45k - N49k depending on the store you visit. Its currently being sold in Slot Ikeja, Park 'N' Shop VI and other stores.

Moto X vs Sony Xperia Z1 vs Samsung Galaxy S4: The Clash of the Titans

Imagine putting a high school boy that loves pretty ladies in a pool or better still jacuzzi filled with the likes of Beyonce, Kim, Kelly Rowland, Tyra Banks and all in bikinis. This young boy would be thrilled but would find it difficult to choose one to bond with. This is the situation smartphone and gadget lovers find themselves considering the barrage of smartphones with outstanding specs being unveiled on a weekly basis.

Sony Xperia Z1
In the latest unveiling of smartphone, Sony decided to go gaga with the new Sony Xperia Z1 which is going to try and rival and steal customers from Samsung Galaxy S4 and Moto X.

Moto X

Samsung Galaxy S4
Well, to give you and insight on how to make the best decision for you if you are confused on which device to drop your cool money, consider the information below in a straight forward manner

Display and Weight
Xperia Z1 has the larges display 5.1in while Moto X has the lowest display 4.7in and Samsung Galaxy S4 has display of 5.0in. This means that Sony has a bigger display than the trio. On the other hand, Sony Xperia Z1 is the heaviest in terms of weight (170g) while S4 and Moto X are of the same weight (130g).

Display Clarity
Sony Xperia Z1 has the best clarity of all three. First its 1080p with advanced Triluminous and X-reality display technology. Samsung Galaxy S4 is also 1080p display quality but the technology used is PenTile which makes mahes look fuzzy at times. Moto X is 720p display quality and not so great.

Processor
Sony Xperia Z1 is the king in this department. It has a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 with each core running 2.2GHz . Galaxy S4 is quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chip and running 1.9GHz. Moto X is dual core X8 Snapdragon S4 pro chip running 1.7GHz. Consequently, Sony Xperia Z1 beats the remaining two hands down.

RAM & Internal Storage
All the three smartphones have 2GB RAM so there is a tie here. However, because of the the fster processing power of both Galaxy S4 and Xperia Z1, Moto may perform a little slower when put under the same conditions. Internal memory is 16GB for Sony Xperia Z1, 16GB/32GB for Galaxy S4 and Moto X. Only Sony Xperia Z1 and Galaxy S4 can be expanded with the aid of a MicroSD card to 32GB.

Camera
Whew! Sony Xperia Z1 is 20.7 mega pixel, Samsung Galaxy S4 is 13 mega pixel and Moto X is 10 mega pixel. Well its easy to say that Xperia Z1 is the best but lets not judge based on the mega pixel rating alone. The technology used by the camera is also a factor, but considering how long Sony had been in the camera business, the 20.7 mega pixel would blow away the remaining two devices.

Battery Power
Battery power is very important for consumers these days. Sony Xperia Z1 is 3000mAh, Galaxy S4 is 2600mAh and Moto X is 2200mAh. Of course, from the values, it is seen that the Xperia Z1 would have the best battery life compared to the remaining two devices.

Operating System & Software
All three devices runs on latest Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2. they all have great software that are embedded to give a more unique feel.

Durability
From the build of all three devices, Sony Xperia Z1 could be seen as being more durable. First, Xperia Z1 is dust and water proof compared to the S4 and Moto X. Both, one could purchase a dust proof casing for S4 and Moto X if its important for the user.

Price
You can be sure that the Sony Xperia Z1 would be expensive than S4 and Moto X when its finally available for purchase.

Considering everything stated above, it should be easier to make that decision on which device to spend your hard earned money on. While it seemed like Sony Xperia Z1 outshines the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Moto X it should be noted that the Xperia Z1 is not avialble for purchase yet until in October.

Also, just like the  Samsung S4 and Moto X, the Xperia Z1 would feature Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0, standard microUSB port with MHL and USB host, GPS receiver with A-GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, NFC.

Check in another post a review of the Samsung Galaxy Gear, which is the first Samsung smartwatch.
