iOS 6.1 Jailbreak & Unlock status for iDevices

Updated:
iOS 6.1 GM should be released soon maybe next week with the way Apple is really gearing up with the beta releases. Also, signs of iOS 7 appearing daily.
For now iOS 6.1 as been reported to be even with higher security that will further make jailbreak quite difficult.
Advice have been sent out telling people that want a jailbreak and unlock on their devices not to update to the latest iOS version.
One thing is to update your Apple device to the latest operating system 6.0 or 6.0.1 another thing is to be sure that your device won't end up becoming an iPod instead of iPhone.
For every new iOS version pushed out by the Cupertino company, idevice users on unsupported sim are always victims of baseband update.
This can be prevented by knowing the status of unlock for the new iOS before you update to it.
Consequently, i have decided to list the unlock status of various idevices on iOS6 and 6.0.1.

Unlock Status for devices on iOS6 and 6.0.1

1. iPhone 3GS old bootrom with the following basebands:

  • 04.26.08
  • 05.11.07
  • 05.13.01
  • 05.12.01
  • 06.15.00
unlock is available. Can be achieved with ultrasn0w fixer
unlock is also available using IMEI unlock

2. iPhone 3GS new bootrom with the following basebands

  • 04.26.08
  • 05.11.07
  • 05.13.01
  • 05.12.01
  • 06.15.00
unlock is available. Can be achieved with ultrasn0w fixer
unlock is also available using IMEI unlock

 3.  iPhone 4 with the following basebands
  • 01.59.00 - Can be unlocked using ultrasn0w fixer
  • 04.10.01 - Uncertain if it can be unlocked with Gevey Ultra interposer but R-SIM7 can
  • 04.11.08 - Can be unlocked using IMEI unlock
  • 04.12.01 - Can be unlocked using IMEI unlock
  • 04.12.02 - Can be unlocked with IMEI unlock
4.  iPhone 4S
All basebands can be unlocked using the IMEI unlock method
All basebands are claimed to be unlockable using R-SIM7 interposer

5.   iPhone 5
All basebands can be unlocked using IMEI unlocked methods
All basebands are claimed to be unlocked with R-SIM7 sim interposer

For ultrasn0w fixer to be usable, a jailbreak is needed. Therefore you should read here on how to jailbreak  your device.

IMEI unlock is the best kind of unlock right now because your phone is unlocked permanemtly and you won't have to worry again next time Apple pushes out a new iOS. However, it is more expensive compared to other methods of unlock

Sim interposer unlock methods like Gevey and R-SIM 7 are also good. The Former is not yet confirmed to unlock idevice on iOS6, however, the later is been used and confirm to unlock iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 on iOS6. It is cheaper than IMEI unlock.

Finally, at anytime you want to upgrade the iOS of your device, it is good to check online for the benefits and drawback as regard the iOS version you plan to upgrade to and also to know the problems you might face.

iOS 5.1.1 has unlock and untethered jailbreak for most devices, so it would be great if you stay on it for now until every piece of jailbreak and unlock solution are out there.
